On Nov. 29th, New Community Church will go on its first “away game.” Instead of meeting in the community center we will go with our house churches into the communities in which we live, and practice being the church in tangible ways. Ideas include (but are not limited to):
Serving- feed, clothe, visit the poor, the widow or the orphan
Missional relationship building- go where unchurched people are or invite them into where you are in order to practice what you have learned from Doug Pollock’s God Space
Worship through prayer- gather together and prayerfully walk through your neighborhoods or city (you could add service to this exercise by picking up trash along the way)
Encourage other believers- gather with another church with the intent to bless them and be reminded of our future reality in God’s kingdom of beautiful diversity (get permission from their pastor first)
If you are not in a house church, consider asking to join one for that day or gather friends together and participate as a group that way. For those of you in house church leadership, we will be asking you to report back to the rest of the family, so be prepared for that. You are free to do whatever would glorify God in this Away Game, but don’t do nothing!
