We believe that God is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe.

He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

Gen. 1:1,26,27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1st Peter 1:2,11; 2nd Corinthians 13:14

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for sinners by dying on a cross. He bodily rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1st Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1st Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13

We believe that the Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God.

He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for godly living, for understanding spiritual truth, and for guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily.

2nd Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; 1st Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:1

We believe that mankind was created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him,

but through Adam’s disobedience, the entire human race was separated from God. As a result, man is incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through his own effort alone.

Romans 2:2-5; Ephesians 2:8-9; Genesis 1:27, 9:6; Psalms 51:5, 58:3; Romans 5:12, 3:23; Ephesians 2:1

We believe that salvation was purchased through the blood of Jesus Christ,

which was shed on the cross, and provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, the only means to salvation is belief in Christ’s substitutional death and resurrection.

Acts 4:12, 13:38-39; 1st Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 4:4-5, 5:1; John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Acts 16:31; Ephesians 1:4-5

We believe that every word in the original writings of Scripture is inspired by God and without error.

It is accurate in all matters to which it speaks; spiritual, historical, and scientific. The Scriptures consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the foundation of the faith and practice of New Community Church.

2nd Timothy 3:16; 2nd Peter 1:21

We believe that every Christian is called to a holy life of service and testimony in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Service includes the propagation of the gospel message to the whole world. There is the promise of reward in heaven for faithfulness in such service.

1st Peter 1:15-16; Acts 1:8; 1st Corinthians 3:12-17; John 14:1-3

We believe that because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in salvation for eternity.

Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security.

John 10:29; 2nd Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10,14; 1st Peter 1:3-5

We believe that mankind was created to exist for eternity.

He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is Heaven. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.

John 3:16; 1st John 2:25; 1st John 5:11-13; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; Matthew 25:31-46

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head.

The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to the lost world.

Ephesians 1:22-23, 5:24-30; 1st Corinthians 12:4-13,27

We believe that the Bible sets forth two ordinances, the Lord’s Supper and water baptism.

The Lord’s Supper is to be celebrated regularly in remembrance of Christ’s death on the cross, and in expectation of His return. Water baptism is an outward testimony of a person’s belief in Christ. Immersion is the ideal means set forth in Scripture.

Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16; Acts 8:12,36-38, 9:18, 10:47; 1st Corinthians 11:23-26

We believe strongly that each believer is chosen to declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness and into His wonderful light.

To empower believers, the Lord has given us the Holy Spirit who works within us to accomplish His work. Therefore, Scripture calls believers a royal priesthood and provides each of us the privilege and authority to allow the Holy Spirit to equip and empower us to accomplish His work.

John 14:12-13; 1st Peter 2:9

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image.

Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.

Genesis 1:27; Psalms 139

Final Authority for Matters of Belief and Conduct

The New Community Church Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of New Community Church’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Board of Elders is New Community Church’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
