Allie Sepanski - A “Go-er”

By A.B.Barber

The question was, “Are you a Go-er or a Send-er?” And once she heard that, and heard the speaker who said it, at the Cedarville University Go Conference Allie Sepanski’s life changed.

Perhaps you’ve met Allie, she’s been a member of New Community Church for three years and belongs to the Independence House Church. She also worked as a barista at Cedarville University’s coffee shop Rinova. I got to meet her while serving with the two and three-year-olds. But, I really got to know her better over a cup of coffee one afternoon at Orion in Cedarville.

Allie is originally from Iowa and she came to Cedarville University to study Business. However, that quickly changed her Freshman year when she attended the school’s annual Go Conference. She sat listening to a speaker who gave a powerful message and said everyone is either a “Go-er” or a “Send-er” Then the speaker asked, “Which one are you?”

Allie felt the Lord telling her she was a “Go-er.” This was quite a surprise, not part of her plan, and quite a shock to herself and her parents. She spent quite some time praying about it and talking about it with a professor at Cedarville. There were many questions. How will you support yourself? Where will you go? How will you get there? Is it safe? Finally, the real question was “What’s holding you back?” And she realized the answer was simply the fear of failure.

However, after a time she knew, through much prayer and discussion that she had been called into missions. She switched her major to Intercultural Studies and began a new journey.

During her time at Cedarville, she was able to go to Brussels, Belgium for three months doing missions work. She encountered a great “spiritual void,” and met many people who had never encountered a Christian. In her own words, “This firsthand experience deeply burdened my heart, compelling me to take action.” She says in her mission letter that this experience, “solidified my calling from the Lord to enter into full-time ministry and serve His kingdom.”

Allie has since graduated from Cedarville this past May, and this coming Fall she will begin a two-year commitment with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE). She will be in the EU, however, instead of going back to Western Europe which she loved, she chose Madrid, Spain, a place that will be completely new to her, putting her “out of her comfort zone” and causing her to have to rely on God.

There she will be joining a missionary team in a “gospel-centered church and coffee shop ministry.” She will work with Spanish nationals in the coffee shop, and then after hours, she will be helping with the English classes they host.

Who knew? Just a few years ago she came to Ohio to study business at Cedarville… now she’s off to Madrid, to share the gospel with Spaniards and go into full-time ministry. God is good! How beautiful to see a heart so willing to serve Him, a lovely young woman who listened to the call and wasn’t too afraid to bravely say, “Yes, I’m a Go-er.”

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
