Steadfast House Church
A.B.Barber
Our leaders are Jay and Judy Jackson. Every other week we gather at their house in Springfield. We share a meal together - everyone bringing what they can. We all sit around their big dining room table, eating, talking, laughing, and finding out how everyone’s week is going. After the meal, we move to the living room and have a time of Bible study. Currently, we are discussing the previous Sunday’s sermon. Sometimes we share communion followed by the singing of a hymn. And we always pray at the end.
On the alternating weeks that we don’t meet at their house, we meet at Cedarville University for our discipleship groups (we call them D-Groups). This is a time when the men and women gather separately. Each group finds a spot somewhere to sit together, study God’s word, share prayer requests, encourage each other, and hold one another accountable.
Our youngest member is sweet baby Ezra! He was born in December to first-time parents Jake and Kelsey Heck - Yay! We also have Matt and Rachel Blankenship - they work together at the same company (cool!), and are great gardeners growing fruits and vegetables. We have two fun and smart Cedarville Students - both ME majors - Cade and Allie - who bring such energy to our group! Our newest member is Grace - a lovely Wright State student - gifted in ceramics! Brian and I live on a small farm. We keep the group informed about cows and chickens (so important!).
Then, there’s Jay and Judy - and I would say they are a great example of “steadfast”. Each week they faithfully lead us, offering their home, their time, their knowledge, and their love for Christ. They encourage us, check on us, and spur us on.
If you aren’t in a house church yet and would like to see what they’re about - you’re always welcome to come visit ours. We will gladly welcome you. Yes, it’s a bit scary to go to a group that you are unfamiliar with, but we all did it - and the good news is -we all survived! You will, too! God designed us to be in community - it truly is a comforting and beautiful thing to be a part of.
